NHL.com — Tuesday, July 21, 2019 — The National Hockey League announced today that the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) will begin the process of revising its 2017 Player’s Handbook to reflect the changing landscape of social media and digital media.
Beginning on Friday, July 27, the Player’s Guide will be updated to reflect all of the latest social media trends and trends that impact the game, including how players are using social media platforms, how players interact with fans on the ice and on social media.
The NHLPA has been working closely with the NHL on the Player Handbook since the 2017-19 season, and has been collaborating with the league and other players’ organizations and stakeholders to ensure the best possible version of the Player Manual.
In addition to the revised 2017 Player Handbook, the NHLPA will continue to provide the League with input on the revisions, which will be incorporated into the 2017 Player Policy, by the middle of the year.
The 2017-20 Player Handbook was issued in July 2018 and was followed by the Player Policy on April 3, 2019.
The 2017-2020 Player Handbook will be released in October 2020.
The 2016-17 Player Policy was issued on January 30, 2021.
